My story
From Rock Bottom to Hybrid Athlete
How I rebuilt my body, my mind, and my life.
We live in a world that tells us to ignore our stress, push through the exhaustion, and keep smiling. For seven years, that was my exact reality.
Working within the NHS, I have spent nearly a decade in some of the most high-pressure, stressful environments you can imagine. Day after day, shift after shift, I poured all my energy into caring for others. But while I was busy looking after everyone else, my own life, mind, and body were quietly fracturing behind the scenes.
Then, life hit me all at once
Within a brutally short period, I faced a terrifying cancer scare, walked away from my job, and went through a devastating breakup. It felt like the ground had completely vanished beneath my feet. I had hit absolute rock bottom.
The chronic stress and emotional toll took a massive, physical revenge on my body. I have always been a naturally lean guy, but the anxiety completely destroyed my appetite. When I finally sat in front of my doctor, he looked at me and delivered a harsh reality check. I was seriously underweight.

Where I started
75kg
Where I am now
I stepped on the scale, and it read just 57kg. At my height, I was a ghost of myself. I was weak, exhausted, and stuck in a mental rut I could not see a way out of.
The Spark: Mandem Meet Up and the Power of Community
When you are that deep in a rut, you cannot always pull yourself out alone. For me, the turning point did not actually start on the gym floor. It started a year earlier, when I got involved with a men's mental health group called Mandem Meet Up.
I was surrounded by men who were all fighting their own battles, but choosing to talk, connect, and support one another instead of suffering in silence. Through Mandem Meet Up, I began participating in weekly workout sessions paired with saunas and ice plunges.
Plunging into freezing water when your mind is screaming at you to get out forces a shift in your brain. The team there educated me deeply on the true meaning of building mental resilience. They taught me how to sit with discomfort, how to breathe through stress, and how to control my mind when everything feels chaotic.
That year with the mandem laid the emotional and mental foundations I desperately needed. It proved to me that vulnerability is a strength. So, at the start of 2024, when I finally made the definitive decision that it was time to get physically fit and rebuild my life, I was not starting from scratch. I was starting with a mind that had already been forged in the ice.
Finding a Second Home in the Heavy Metal
With my mental resilience locked in, the gym became my second home.
At first, it was just about survival. But very quickly, I stopped looking at exercise as an emotional escape. The gym was not my therapy. It became my sharpest tool. It was the mechanism I used to physically construct the person I wanted to become. Learning, training, and self development became my new way of life. I obsessed over the science of human movement, programming, and physiology.
Over the last three years, I did not just train. I studied. I built a mountain of knowledge on exactly how a naturally lean, highly stressed hardgainer body actually responds to stimulus. I tested everything on myself, building a repeatable blueprint for physical transformation.
Today, I sit at a strong, functional 75kg. But the biggest shift was not the number on the scale. It was my mindset. I completely stopped training just for looks. I stopped chasing the superficial bodybuilder pump and started training purely for performance.
The Hardest Battle: Rewriting My Relationship with Food
If you are a naturally skinny or lean guy, you know that the gym floor is not the hardest part. The real war is fought in the kitchen.
My relationship with food was easily the biggest hurdle of my entire journey. I have never been a big eater. My stomach has always been sensitive, and my appetite has always been the first thing to drop when life gets stressful.
When I started trying to grow, the standard fitness advice of just eat more dry chicken and rice failed me completely. I could not face eating the exact same bland meals every single day. It made me feel sick. There were brutal weeks where my appetite completely vanished, and I was barely eating enough calories to maintain the muscle I had put so much blood and sweat into building.
I had to learn how to outwit my own biology. I had to develop a fueling strategy that worked with a busy lifestyle and a sensitive gut, using easily digestible foods, liquid macros, and high performance nutrition that did not leave me feeling bloated and miserable.
The Birth of a Hybrid Athlete
Once I unlocked my nutrition and combined it with a structured three day lifting split, kettlebell work, functional circuits, and dedicated cardio, my body transformed from a lean frame into a high performance machine.
Today, I do not just lift weights. I compete in Hyrox and push my VO2 max to its absolute limits. I built an elite cardiovascular engine without sacrificing a single pound of my hard earned muscle frame. I proved to myself that you do not have to choose between being strong and being fast. You can be both.
A New Way to Help
I spent seven years working within the walls of the NHS, trying to fix people after they had already broken down. It was rewarding, but I realized I wanted to help people in a different, more preventative way.
I want to reach the busy, the stressed, and the naturally lean guys who are currently sitting exactly where I used to sit. I want to help the men who are stuck in a mental rut, struggling with their food, and feeling like their hectic lifestyles will not allow them to build a body and mind they are proud of.
You do not need to compete in a Hyrox to train like an athlete. But you do deserve to possess a body that is undeniably strong, an engine that does not gas out, and a mind that handles stress because you have the tools to manage it.
My journey from a 57kg healthcare rut to a 75kg hybrid athlete was not luck. It was a system built on community, mental resilience, and functional science. And now, I am here to give those exact tools to you.
